Festa Italiana was started by former Kenner Police Chief Nick Congemi to celebrate the strong Italian heritage that contributed to the formation of the city.  The three day festival features live music, rich Italian cuisine and unique activities inspired by the customs of Kenner's Italian residents, such as a procession to honor St. Rosalie and an elaborate St. Joseph's altar.  The city of Kenner at one time was the center of the community for many Italian families and this festival serves as a family reunion of sorts where people come to meet and enjoy each other's company each year.

The Italian Heritage Festival is traditionally held in March or April in the 400 block of Williams Boulevard in the heart of the Rivertown historic district.
